Fishery Patrol Vessel AEGIS - major maintenance programme.

FPV ‘Aegis’ is a 16m GRP vessel based on the ARUN 52 mould. She was built by Halmatic (Porchester) in 1996

Main engines Caterpillar 3408B

It is anticipated that the work would commence on the 4th February 2008 and be completed by 31st March 2008. The patrol vessel is likely to be unavailable for enforcement duty for all of February and March 2008.

Contracts will be let for the work specified below in December 2008 when detailed costings have been completed.

 

Detailed specification for work to be undertaken:

1. Main Engines: Provisional maximum cost estimate £75,000

To be fully reconditioned by the manufacturer, Finnings Caterpillar at their premises. There are no other possible contractors for this work so alternative estimates cannot be obtained.

Uncoupling and supervision of the removal of both main engines onto Finnings transport.

Transport to their workshops.

Full engine overhaul (as per their schedule) and test.

Return transport and reinstallation.

Commissioning and trials. (week commencing 31st March 2008)

 

2. Hull repair and Engine removal. Provisional maximum cost estimate £15,000

To be undertaken at Glasson Dock where previous annual refits have been carried out, or at Pwllheli marina. Alternative quotes are being obtained.

Lift ashore and block off.

Clean off hull below waterline, prepare surface, prime as required, apply 2 coats antifouling paint.

Provide crane to lift off engine room deck hatch.

Provide crane to lift out main engines, and place on Finnings transport.

Whilst main engines are out of vessel, clean off and cut back existing fillers/resins within confinement of engine sumps, prepare, re-glass to seal off. To paint out repaired areas.

Provide crane to lift back in the main engines.

Provide crane to lift on engine room deck hatch.

Re-launch vessel.

 

3. Electrical system: Provisional maximum cost estimate £10,000

To be undertaken by an external contractor working at either Glasson Dock or Pwllheli marina. Alternative quotes are being obtained.

Remove main engine room ventilation fans, return to manufacturer for refurbishment, and reinstall.

Split 240v alternator from genset. Dismantle alternator, clean, replace defective parts, test, re-assemble and load test.

Inspect all distribution panels and remake all bare wire terminations with crimp terminators. Clean and inspect all termination contact surfaces and RCDs.

Inspect all switch gear.

Remove cable trunking covers and inspect all cable runs for deterioration, chafe, overloading. Replace all cable trunking covers.

Inspect all wiring terminations at consumer devices (both24v and 240v)

Inspect all voltage droppers.

Inspect battery charger and all cabling.

Inspect all heater fan motors.

Inspect galley and heads extractor fan motors.
