1.2 Costs

Fuel (average, all vehicles) 9.0p/mile

Other (excl. lease & insurance) 3.5p/mile

Insurance - £7,308 for the year covering all cars and vans.

1.3 Replacement

All vehicles (except Y685 XCW) have been acquired under Full Maintenance Operating Lease agreements, which will run for either three or four years before needing to be replaced.

Quadracycles

2.1 There are currently six vehicles in use, acquired between 2003 and 2007.

2.2 Costs

Overall running costs for these during 2006-2007 was £2,274

2.3 Replacement

These vehicles are used almost exclusively in the intertidal areas by Fishery Officers working alone; they must, therefore, be kept to a high standard of safety. The current practice is for the bikes to be replaced approximately every two years, with the better of those remaining being passed on to the Senior Scientific Officer.

3. Zodiacs

3.1 There are currently five vessels in use, acquired between 1997 and 2006.

3.2 Costs

Overall running costs for these during 2006-2007 was £3,790.

3.3 Replacement

Where possible, it is intended to replace boats after five years, although a shorter replacement period is advisable for the Aegis’s boat which takes a lot more punishment than the others.
